I watched Baby last night with my mom, bro and sis. How was it? Naaaaaaaaaayyyyyyys. I love the songs...though, yes, as my sis' friend said, I can't relate to the story all that much, coz, of course, I've never been pregnant, and don't plan to be anytime soon.
The story? Well, it's a sort of interconnected story of three couples. The first couple involves two college students, Lizzie (Lea Salonga) and Danny (I think his name is David Shannon). The 2nd involves newly marrieds, Pam (Agot Isidro) and Nick (Jett Pangan). And the third involves Allen (Miguel Faustmann) and Arlene (?) (Mencu Lauchenco-Yulo), both in their 40's. The first couple's dilemma is obvious. They're college students, and Lizzie suddenly found she's pregnant. Danny wants to get married, but Lizzie doesn't want to, coz, as she said, she doesn't want to get divorced, which, as Danny said, doesn't make sense at all. As for the 2nd couple, they thought at first that Pam was pregnant, and they were so happy, but found out it was false alarm. And what's more, it seemed like the guy's "shooting blanks". And they were so depressed about it, and kept trying to have children. Allen and Arlene, meanwhile, had just had their 20th anniversary, after sending their youngest kid off to college. Then, they found out that Arlene was pregnant...again. And Arlene kept feeling anxious about being pregnant at 43. They considered getting an abortion, but ended up keeping the baby.
It was a funny play, and sad at times. It told of stories of three couples who had problems in their relationships because of the issue of children. Lizzie and Danny were having problems because they were so young. Pam and Nick couldn't have a baby, and it was getting to them. And Allen and Arlene had been trying to keep the romance in their lives after spending most of their lives devoting themselves to the kids. But now it seems like they would have another one, and it scares Arlene, because she doesn't know how they could ever bring back the romance in their lives.
It was ironic, too, and shows just how reality can be. Those who are too young or are too old to have babies do get pregnant. But the couple who should and want to have a baby couldn't. But, as my mom said, that's life.
As I said, I loved the songs. I thought of buying the CD, but the CD only contained three songs, and it didn't seem worth it, so instead, I got Lea Salonga's broadway concert CD.
