Yesterday, we had our consultation with My Lord. All seven creative writing majors in his three classes (me, Cerz, Yumi, Ina, Jay, and Geopet) crammed into that consultation room in the Philo Department with him. It was what we had been waiting for. The moment when we, as a group, would have the chance to speak our piece and make him see things from our point of view.
Actually, it was supposed to be the time to ask him about our grades and such. And, though I kept saying I wanted to terrorize him for a change during that time, I was really vowing to myself I won't say a word, and I'd just shut up. But when have I shut up whenever I feel the need to defend myself and fight? And once I get started, it's usually impossible to shut me up again. "Once you pop, you can't stop."
Hey, to my credit, I wasn't the only one, but I guess I was sort of the instigator. Heck, he was pissing us off even then. Here's an example--not in exact words, but that's the gist of it:
ML: Here are your class recitation grades...just compute them. Oh yeah, I forgot. You're creative writing majors. You can't do that.
Of course, that got our defenses up, and we pointed out that Yumi happened to be a math genius. But then, he went on later.
ML: This is two-thirds of your grade. Do you know what two-thirds is? It's this pie...you cut it into three....
Me: (Unable to control myself) Sir, kung di namin alam yan, di kami magsusurvive ng tatlong taon.
Well, we ganged up on him. Ina gave some pretty impressive side comments, shocking My Lord, and making him say, "Akala ko pa naman, ikaw yung pinakamabait sa kanila!" Ha! That's what you think! :P I also decided it was the time to say my piece.
Me: Sir, I'm not a walking dictionary. (Still remembering the class that morning when he, again, wanted me to tell him how to pronounce this italian word, chiaroscurros...or something.)
Cerz: Sir, I'm not angsty (because My Lord told her that same morning that she always looked like she hated the world)
Jay & Geopet: Sir, hindi kami beyond hope. (ditto)
Jace: Sir, ala akong voodoo doll (My Lord told him he looked like he was a witch)
And, another one of Cerz's moments.
Cerz: Sir, may kumuha na ba sayo para sa creative pic?
ML: Ba...kit? Ano planong gawin niyo sa akin?
Cerz: Sir, have you watched Kill Bill?
So, there you go. We pretty much blasted him all throughout those 45 minutes of consultation. I asked him if he had anything against us creative writing majors...he denied it and said he just couldn't understand why we wanted our course. But we were all laughing all throughout anyway, and My Lord seemed (please, God, I hope) to have a sense of humor, and got that we were all just joking around (sort of). I guess we were laughing so loud that Darls, who was outside, was wondering what we were doing. Good thing the department was pretty much empty because it was lunchtime then.

Last night, I met up with my high school friends in Eastwood. Aileen's 20th birthday was last Wednesday and she treated us last night. Anyway, Aileen had made it clear that she didn't want me wearing my usual attire of t-shirt, jeans and rubber shoes. So, not in the mood to get a lecture from both her and Joy, I decided to give in to her request. So there I was, still wearing my jeans, but with a black sleeveless top from Havoc and a teetering on a pair of wedge shoes (I know it's not exactly stiletto heels, but I'm used to having the floor so close to the soles of my feet).
I felt like a dork.
Anyway, there were many of us. Me, Aileen, Diana, Nikko, Sheree, Joy, Cathy, Chiqui, two of Aileen's college blockmates, Aileen's boyfriend (ex?) Paul, and Paul's friend Joren, Diana's boyfriend Boom, and Joy's friend Leo Villa. We all crammed ourself in the darkes corner of Jack's Loft in Eastwood. Hey, the food's not bad there, by the way.
It was the first time we met Aileen's boyfriend and his friend, and they didn't talk all that much during the night. Actually, did I even hear them speak? Nope...probably coz they were on one side of the long table, while we were on the other side. So, no, I didn't hear them speak. Well, except for that one time in Blue Onion, when Joren said something to Aileen.
Hmm...I was sitting in front of Leo, so I talked a lot with him. He's a talkative guy, and he was from Ateneo. Actually, he sort of reminds me of Anthony, the guy in Nonfiction class. Do I have to elaborate? No.
Hmm...I liked Chiqui's outfit. Black t-shirt, short, faded blue denim skirt (sort of school-girl-ish), long, wild-colored socks and a pair of black sneakers with Murder written on one shoe, and something else (I forgot) on the other with a black marker. Hmm...her hair is the same style as Cerz's (bangs and all), except shorter and not straight. I kept teasing her that she looked like Chiaki Kuriyama in Kill Bill and in Battle Royale, but she kept denying it.
We got neoprints--Me, Cathy and Chiqui. We left the others in Blue Onion, saying we were going to the bazaar, but we ended up in the cinema, where there was a row of neoprint machines. Well, We had 50 bucks apiece, and we had nothing to do, so we decided to go for it. Diana's kind of pissed about that because we hadn't told them about it, but as I said, it was a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing.
Just a thought. College has really changed Aileen. In high school, she was this quiet, shy, smart artist who's always drawing and keeping to herself. Now, she reminds me of...well, of a former Povedan. Much more of a Povedan than I will ever be. She sort of disconcerted me last night when I first spotted her. She has shorter hair now. And she was wearing a red halter top and short schoolgirl black (or was it red?) skirt, and high-heeled white strappy sandals. She was fixing her makeup there in front of the McDonald's with her compact. Not extraordinary, I know, and actually pretty normal for a college student--heck for anyone. But I don't know. Maybe it's because I'd known her when she was the quiet, down-to-earth, simple high school girl who wouldn't be caught dead in sleeveless, and there she was in a halter and short, short skirt. And I don't see her much, so the transformation was overnight for me. I guess I felt like...I didn't know her anymore. It's easier for Diana, Joy and Nikko. Diana and Joy had been wanting to makeover me, Aileen and Nikko long before. And Joy and Nikko see her a lot more often than I do. Diana talks to her a lot lately (you know how it is when two friends both have boyfriends).
And then, I also felt kind of weird coz everyone was drinking and all. I don't drink (mainly coz I don't like the taste, and coz I like being in control of what I'm doing), so I was the only one there not doing so. Even Nikko was drinking. I've never seen her drink in my entire life.
Too many things changing...and I can't seem to keep up.
