We had another workshop today in nonfiction. I submitted my paper on the Eastwood trip, The Way We Once Were this time. The workshop wasn't as good this time. Maybe because we kept veering off topic. Instead of critiquing each others' works, we kept digressing and talking about the topic of the essays. Such as the essay on the paintball. It was about paintball, and we started talking about the guns used in paintball.
I ended up sitting beside Ina's "best friend", Anthony. Man, I am never sitting beside him ever again! He talked me to death during the class, and I never know what to say in response. He just kept talking and talking, and I just kept nodding and smiling. I kept zoning out, and I can't remember exactly what he was talking about. It would have been ok if he was just telling a story, and I didn't need to reply. I can bullshit my way through that. But there were many moments when he actually required some sort of a response from me. And he's the type of person who can pester you for hours until you finally give an appropriate answer. The problem was, I never really hear what he said, so how would I know what to answer when I didn't even know what he was talking about? Yumi and Ina were no help. They just sat a little far from me, laughing at my expression. I probably looked desperate and drowning.
Afterwards, Ina went to my house to wait for her mom to pick her up, because her mom was still in Makati, and it was already deserted in Ateneo at quarter to seven in the evening. We gorged on those chocolate fudge brownies Darls loves so much, and we pretended to study for our philosophy class. Well, I was pretending to study. I don't know whether Ina was really studying. The sad thing is, my dad decided to play his favorite CD...again. One of those Zen, relaxation CDs, wherein all you hear are the sounds of birds chirping, trees rustling and water flowing, and some slow, soothing music. That's ok when you're in a spa, having a massage or something. But when you're trying to read a very boring article in My Lord's philosophy textbook, it's not wise to listen to music like that. That and the assigned reading would put you to sleep in no time.
Ina also ate dinner in my house with us. So, of course, my dad knew that she's the daughter of Johnny Delgado and Laurice Guillen, and since my dad had read all about their mission trip when she was young, as well as the article on Laurice Guillen's move for the zoning of the movies in SM Megamall, my dad talked her to death about it. Oh, well...that's my dad for you.
