Last night, my brother left and went back to the U.S, since his classes resume on September 23. My parents and I went with him to the airport. I guess I should feel guilty, but in a way, I'm a bit relieved that he's gone. It's a little stressful having him here. Everytime he's here, I always feel like I'm running a race. One thing I can say about my brother is, he's plastic. He can bullshit my mom and dad and make it sound like he's such a perfect son. And I'm left trying to catch up, and not feel like such a worthless and unaccomplished daughter.
Anyway, enough of that.
We left for the airport at around 5 pm, and we had to rush back through traffic so that I could get to school on time to watch Blue Rep's The Wiz with my friends. Well, I made it to the part where Dorothy was already in Oz, and she's singing Soon As I Get Home after Addaperle, the good witch of the north, had told her about the Wiz and left her. No offense, but I didn't like the play all that much. We'd done The Wiz in repertory workshop back when I was twelve, and, modesty aside, I honestly believe it was so much better when we'd done it. I mean, considering the fact that we were all only 10 to 12 years old, and anyone could join the workshop without auditioning. Our Dorothy was a much better singer and actress than Bea Garcia was, and hindi siya pa-cute. Plus, the others were much more convincing actors and dancers, the singing was better, and honestly, the set was better in ours (you should have seen the large toilet Evillene was flushed into when Dorothy threw the water at her!) And the pit chorus (which included me in our production) weren't just sitting in the dark singing the background doo-wop, doo-wop. We were positioned at the side of the stage, yes, but we had costumes, and we had choreography... We were part of the play itself.
Ok, enough bragging. Hehe...but I'm serious! Yumi, you watched a production of The Wiz, right? And from what you said, it sounded like it was our production.
Anyway, after the play, Darls, Jihan, Mitch and I went ahead of the others to Tapika because Billy was already there to hold down our reservation and I felt guilty for leaving him there. After some time, the others arrived. So, there was me, Yumi, Cerz, Kim, Jihan, Loi, Darls, Cathy, Ina, Jing, Billy, Mitch and Chino.
The band playing was U-Turn. They're pretty good...as my mom had once told me, since apparently, they're one of the bigger earners among the bands that play in Tapika. The block actually told them that it was my birthday (which it wasn't, since my birthday was last Tuesday), so the band kept trying to convince me to sing witht them. But I spent half the time hiding behind Cathy, and they soon gave up.
Cerz and Yumi gave me their gift while we were in Tapika. It was in a gigantic box tied in a bow, so I placed it on the table in front of me and unwrapped it as the others looked on. So, I untied the bow and lifted the lid...and there was the very lovely picture of LA Tenorio. Oh, yeah, Cerz and Ina (?) (or is it Yumi?) had dared a fellow classmate in Directing class to steal this poster of a business management org that had Tenorio's picture on it. It was a large picture, and I did my best to stuff it back into the box before the entire Tapika noticed it :P. Besides the picture, there was also a Dan Brown book as well as this really quite beautiful bottle with a glass stopper, and rolled up papers and wood shavings and other stuff inside.
I think they all had fun despite the noise from the band and the heavy smoke. Maybe it was also because the block was together again, even the old blockmates...hey, even Jing was there! And they were all experimenting with different cocktails there, Vodka Cruiser and Weng-Weng, of which Darls and Cathy and Ina drank a lot.
Afterwards, Jihan, Yumi and Cerz went with me to sleep over in my house. Kim was supposed to go, too, but in the end, she couldn't go with us. So, there we were in my sister's bedroom. While the others were playing scrabble, I went through the rolled papers in the bottle. As it turned out, they contained stories of 20 of my friends in college that involved me and my many bloopers over the two and a half years in Ateneo. They kept me laughing all throughout the night. I'll just post the messages in my LJ account.
Well, we were pretty sleepy by then, so we fell asleep at around 1:30 or two. So, that pretty much ended our Friday night.
