I know the title's stolen from Yumi's blog...but I don't feel original. So, Yumi, if you're reading this, please don't sue me for plagiarism.
As the title says, the theme for this day is...tong-its. Today was the day I officially got addicted with tong-its. Why? Blame it on Yumi, Cerz and Regi. They're ALL to blame for my current addiction to a game I was never inclined to learn before!
It started like this. Regi, Yumi's friend came to Ateneo today to visit Yumi. When Cerz and I got out of our theology class at 11:20 am, me, Cerz, Yumi, Darls and Regi all headed off to our now infamous tambayan, that spot right outside the pubroom in Gonzaga Hall, where we get all the opportunities to annoy Xander da Gander. So there we were. Yumi and Darls were studying for their theology test, while Regi looked on. Cerz and I got bored, so we decided to "steal" Cathy's deck of cards from her locker. The two--or was it the four?--of us played a few rounds of pusoy dos...and then tong-its began.
I've heard of the game since I was in...grade school? It's always had a bad connotation with my parents, and I thought it was this really "evil" game...or something like that. Something those unemployed, always drunk guys with beer-bellies, play. So...I never learned before. But I didn't really want to sit on the side, watching them all play it, so I decided to try my hand at it, with Cerz as my official coach.
Just a digression. I have found out that Cerz is not someone I would want to teach me how to drive. She's a backseat driver, I tell you! She yells at me whenever I make a wrong move...and I'm a beginner, mind you. My parents, when I'm trying to drive, are both backseat drivers, and one time, they kept giving instructions, their voices overlapping, until I wanted to scream. I was quiet, so they were amazed that I was so calm, while they were so tense, but if they took the time to look at my hands on the wheel, they would have seen my choking the steering wheel. No to backseat drivers!!!
I managed to get the hang of it, though I still kept getting lost and not knowing what the next move should be. I just kept dropping and dropping cards. Sometimes, I'm lucky enough to win.
Then, we all went to Pizza Hut for Darls' birthday. Even there, we played. And when we got back to school, we played. Yumi took her theology exam, and still Regi and I were playing tong-its at the back of the CTC 2nd floor. When Yumi got back, we played.
Then, it was time for Ina's directing class, which we were going to be guests in. In between shows, Cerz, Regi adn I played. Until many of the directing class members, even the teacher, Mr. Yany Yuson of the Mongols, and Xander, played.
So, thanks to Cathy's deck of cards, I am now a tong-its addict.
Oh, speaking of the Directing class, there were many that really made me laugh. There was Jake's Philadelphia play. Man, Xander was made for that role! Yumi, dapat pinanood mo!!! And there was Ina's. Grabe! Talagang professional actor, Noel Rayos, pa!
