It's January 1--the first day of the year 2005. 5 years have passed since Nostradamus' deadline for human existence. And we're still alive! Well, most of us, at least. After all that has happened in the last few months of 2004, many are not. Makes one sometimes wonder and fear that doomsday is really close by. After all, in just that tsunami tragedy a week ago, more than a hundred thousand people died, including one Atenean student. And there were also those typhoons in the Philippines and in California. Too many people being killed abruptly in just a short period of time.
Being terrified of death, it kind of scares me. What's next? Are those really signs of the end of the world? Some people say they are. Whenever the end of the world came to my mind, I used to picture the sky opening up or something, God coming down and everyone freezing on the spot. Then, He would take all the good ones with him and the others would be cast to hell. I dunno...something like the lamb being separated from the goat (did I get that right?). But I guess it won't really happen that way. It would probably be something like the Great Flood or something. Or the extinction of the dinosaurs. Some natural phenomenon. Something more human.
Anyway, this entry's getting too morbid.
Now, for that pretty much useless New Year's Resolution (useless because I rarely, if ever, follow it).
1) Write! Start getting serious about writing. Get back the discipline I used to have in writing.
2) Read more kinds of books. Broaden my horizons.
3) Figure out what I really want to do with my life.
4) Stop obsessing about things better left forgotten.
5) Be more optimistic about life. Tone down on the sarcasm.
6) Develop a better study system. Get a higher QPI, even if I don't actually make it in the dean's list.
7) Be neater with my room.
8) Find something to motivate me.
9) Work on my self-esteem.
10) Grow up. (literally and figuratively)
*Sigh* I'll leave it at 10. I don't even know if I'll get to do any of these. One step at a time, kid.
