Log training

We had our OrSem training awhile ago. Or at least they called it training. I think the GDs (group dynamics) took up the majority of the time. And wouldn't you know that they would be so draining?

Call time was at 7 am. I woke up at 5:45 to take a bath. Actually, I'd woken up at about 4:15. You could blame Jake for that. He texted me to ask the schedule of our practicuum for next semester...yep, at 4:15 am. I wasn't able to do more than drift into a very shallow sleep after that. And
Jace texted me, too...at about 5:20. Great...thanks a lot, guys...I really should start remembering to turn my phone to silent mode before I go to sleep.

I was supposed to hitch a ride with my mom on her way to Subic this morning, but she left earlier than I expected, and since I was basically ignoring the intercomm, I missed that ride. Got one with dad, who I believe was a bit unhappy with my plan for the day. Especially when he dropped me off at Gonzaga Hall, and yay! there was no one there! Guess where I got my paranoid streak?

But Jace and
Yumi were already there. They were upstairs, though. We eventually hooked up with Mela, who turned out to be a logcom volunteer too. Oh, and I also saw the best friend of Diana's ex-boyfriend (we -- the best friend and I -- used to end up as Diana's and her ex's messengers) there, though I didn't talk to him. Don't know if he even remembers me.

The log training started late. We waited more than an hour before it started. Basically, the logcore just introduced themselves and the committees they head. Then, they immediately segued into the GDs.

First GD: this modified version of the concentration game, wherein you're grouped into five groups and given an action as well as a word. You have to say your group's word (ours is "cinco") and do the action, then sort of pass the ball to another group by doing theirs.

Second GD: the world war thing...another modified version of sorts of the fox and chicken game. THis time, your group is supposed to invade the other group's land. Very violent game, coz you're dragging each other around. And I was feeling a bit claustrophobic there.

In between those GDs, they said some stuff on what we would need to do as logcom volunteers, and on the different committees. We signed up for different committees, then we went off to lunch. Yumi, Jace, Mela and I went to KFC for lunch. The trike driver Yumi and I had was hyper and quirky, refusing to talk to us in anything other than enthusiastic english.

Trike Driver: Hurry up...hurry up! Let us go! It is going to rain! We will get wet!

Me: Ok, manong! We will go there now!

Heh. Anyway, it did start to rain seconds after we left the terminal. We were getting wet inside the tricycle. I tried to shield us with my umbrella, but it snapped...so there, no more umbrella. Got drenched on one side on the way to KFC.

Yumi left after lunch, but the rest of us went back for the rest of the training. We were divided into committees, and I went off with the rest of the covered courts volunteers. More GDs, with some instructions about the OrSem inserted between them. At least the GDs were more enjoyable that afternoon, and a lot less draining.

Third GD: Charades. My group won all three rounds because we cheated our way through. Sometimes, our group's facilitator would whisper clues to us while the covered courts heads had their backs turned. And she would coach the actors on how to act out the stuff. The heads eventually caught on, but of course...they couldn't really prove it. They just sensed somethign was happening because some of us would blurt out the answers even before the actor got to the action itself.

4th GD: Ah...can't remember the name. We're in a circle...there's someone in the middle. The rest of us pass around a key, and the one in the circle is supposed to guess where the key is. Of course, on the first several tries, the one in the middle guessed instantly because the people sitting around weren't all that subtle passing the key. Some would even toss around the key.

So, that was the log training. Hah. You would think we were having our OrSem ourselves, the way we kept having GDs. And it was kind of draining, and we only wanted to get home. I'm not going tomorrow. No thanks.
