Canadian dream

So I finally finished the 8 poems for poetry seminar-workshop last night. 8 friggin' poems in 1 week. They're all crap, not even half-baked. Especially the last half I made. I was so desperate to complete the 8 poems that I just made crappy half-rhyming poems on stupid subjects.

Oh well. That's done. They're printed. Nothing to do about them now.

I had a long talk with Lola Turing, my grandfather's sister, yesterday in Bulacan during that get-together in Lolo Nestor's, my grandfather's brother, nipa hut (?) blessing. We were trying to get my dad away from the drinking lolos so that we could go home, but they always manage to pull him back. So, I ended up talking to Lola Turing.

She just came from Canada, where she spent months visiting her children (?) who are all there now. Anyway, she asked me about my studies (the usual) and about my plans after college. She asked me if I ever want to go abroad. I told her that if ever I'm going to go abroad, I want it to be Ireland or Canada. I told her I didn't know what I want to do after college, but that I'm considering taking law school. She suddenly suggested that I try taking law school in Canada. My godmother, who is her daughter, might be able to help me out. Of course, I commented that that would be very expensive. But she said that, no, it's not as expensive as I thought. And I could always get a job. It's easier to get a job there even though I don't have much in my resume.

To make a long story short, it opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me. Study in Canada! I went there before on tours with my parents, and I really liked Ottawa. Not to mention Chapters, the humongous bookstore there, hehe. I have to admit that hearing about Lola Turing talking about the possibilities made me...I don't know...yearn. A chance for independence, maybe a chance for salvation. Learning to stand on my own feet, being away from my parents. Maybe it could be just the thing that would save me from myself. Maybe it would even help me appreciate my family more, the way I think it did my brother.

Of course, the usual doubts eventually set in. There's the fact that studying law here is different from studying law abroad. If I decide to practice here (which will probably be the case), I would have to study again because the laws here and in Canada are different. Plus, there's the fact that winter in Canada would probably be brutal. Would I last? And of course, the inevitable adjustment period I would have to go through. Not to mention the living expenses and all that, even with a part-time job. Medyo nakakahiya rin kasi sa parents ko, kasi mahal nga.

*sighs*
