I didn't get to sleep all that much last night. I was studying the philo readings for this morning. Ok, so I was alternating between studying the philo handouts and trying to finish revising the fiction piece I'm working on. So, by the time I finally tuned out, it was around 12:30 in the morning. Fine, that's not so late for other usual late-night sleepers and die-hard students. But that's later than I usually conk out. And I had to wake up at 5:30 because whe had to go to mass (it's Wednesday). I was afraid I'd end up oversleeping, so I set the alarm clock of both my cd player and my cellphone.
So, let's just say that I'm not exactly at my most alert moment this morning. My eyelids were drooping all throughout philo. Then, of course, My Lord was kind enough to suddenly call my name first thing in class when I happened to be debating whether I should just give in and nod off. "Miss Santiago," he suddenly barks out. Yes, I am ashamed to say that I jumped and my heart froze for a moment. "what did you think about the SONA?"
Uh...whoops. I didn't watch it. And guess what? Only one in our class watched it. Not even Miss Ferriols watched it and she's My Lord's current pride and joy (this sem's female Mr. Yambao). Then, when Miss Tuazon finished telling the class what the SONA was about (I knew the gist, but I didn't really know the details), My Lord called me again and asked me for my opinion.
Man, not this morning. I'm too dimwitted and brainless this morning to answer a question like that. My brain's still all fogged up. And I hate talking about politics. I get enough of that at home with my dad, who never really seems interested in your opinion--he just wants you to agree with his convoluted opinions.
So, Edlyn, you ask, why the hell are you even considering taking law after college if you don't like politics? Don't ask me. I've been asking myself that question for a long time.
Needless to say, I refused to answer and My Lord reprimanded me for not having an opinion. For once, I didn't really care about being humiliated in class, I was too sleepy. But then, when I did raise my hand to answer some of his questions regarding Pieper's article, he wouldn't call me. Damn it, why is it that when I know the answer to his questions, he refuses to call me, but when I don't, he delights in calling me again and again and watching me fumble for the answer? I knew what mental unrest is. I studied it last night. Even though I kept pushing philo aside to write another scene in my story, I remembered the answer to that. But I didn't study the SONA. I wasn't prepared for him to ask me about that.
Story of my life.
At least one funny thing happened during class. I was wondering why he was standing the whole time, bent over his desk as he fired all those questions at us. Then, he suddenly tells us, halfway through classtime, "Uh, is it ok if we just end this class now and continue next class? I'm kind of having a stomach problem."
I had the decency to dig my teeth into the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing (hehe, naks). The guy behind me was laughing his head off. I thought he was going to start banging his fist on his desk. Hmm...I think he did.
Geez, did you have to say "stomach problem"? You could have just told us that you were feeling sick or something. At least we wouldn't have this mental picture flashing in our minds.
