Ha! I've finally ridden the LRT!!! Haha, how pathetic. After so many years (more than a decade?) of having an LRT here in the Philippines, and having the MRT for so long as well, yesterday was the very first time I got to ride one. Hey, to my credit, I never really had the reason to do so. For one thing, when I was still in high school and studying in Poveda, I don't think the MRT was up already, and besides, my parents would never let me ride one to school. Then, I started college in Ateneo. Why the heck would I ride an LRT or MRT to school when I can just walk to Ateneo? So I never really had the reason or opportunity to do so.
But yesterday, for the very first time, mom allowed me to commute with Cerz to Gateway (by the way, it was my first time to go there, too...after a year of it being open) to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The movie opened last Wednesday, and I've been dying to watch it for a long time. If only to keep Yumi from spoiling it for me before I get to do so. Heh. My brother had told me he would take us to Gateway, but we wanted to catch the earlier show, and he was busy, so I got mom's permission to just ride the LRT to go there, then get picked up after the movie.
I acted like an idiot all throughout. First time thrills and all that. Could barely keep my balance inside the LRT...but I liked it coz it was so fast. Got to Gateway in less than 2 minutes...at least, it felt like it.
Cerz and I wandered around after buying movie tickets while waiting for it to start. I didn't go in the shops after the first two, though. I got sick of having the metal detectors blaring in my ears everytime I walk between them. Those detectors are really stupid and pointless. I mean, they go off every time they sense even the most innocent metal materials. I mean, my bag must have been full of those: my umbrella, my ID strap, my locker key, the buckles on my bag... Geez. And they didn't even bother to check me after it goes off. Probably coz I looked resigned and exasperated. But what if I was just acting as if it was all a mistake but am actually hiding a gun inside my bag? Doesn't inspire much confidence in security huh?
And the movie. I loved it! It was certainly different from the 70's version. The old one was meant for kids and all that. I loved the old one too because of the songs and all. Especially "Pure Imagination". But while Tim Burton's version is darker and creepier, I have to say I love it just as much. I was expecting to be disappointed because of the not-so-exciting trailers I've seen. But this movie was funny, maybe intended more for an older set of audience. The Oompa Loompas -- more like one, since they were all played by one person -- were great. Hip and cool Oompa Loompas! I want the soundtrack! YUMI! And I was laughing my head off over the Space Odyssey allusion :P I doubt others who haven't seen that movie would have gotten the Wonka bar monolith though.
Brother picked us up afterwards. We--me, Cerz and Kuya--went to Tapika later on that night for the SMB Bar Tour. We got there just as the band Chubibo (?) was finishing up. The next band, Lucid, was great. I liked the vocalist's voice. And Cerz loved the songs she sang. Barbie Almabis played at around midnight. That was what I was waiting for. I have to say it disappointed me though. It just seemed as if she was a bit off that night. Maybe it was because it was late. Maybe she was easily discouraged by the sudden leaving of the people, and the lackluster response to her first couple of songs. She just seemed a little sad to me. Plus, the drums and guitar were overpowering her voice, we could barely hear her. It was especially disappointing because the songs she'd sung were some of my favorites in her album, but she changed them, and they didn't sound so good anymore. Plus the fact that the drums and guitars were too loud for me to appreciate the song. Maybe it was a mistake to leave Barbie's Cradle and go solo. The songs just didn't sound the same.
Oh well. Enough procrastinating. Too much to do this weekend.
