Sunday post

I wasn't able to go online for more than five minutes since Friday because I went to Subic with a bunch of blockmates. So, I'll only be giving my updates today.

About the Theo Midterms

It's over. Ah, thank you, God, it's over. I don't remember ever studying that intensely over any other exams before. I usually study the day before, even the day itself. At most, two days before. But for this exam, I spent an entire week studying. That's got to be a record.

So how was it? Hard, considering the time pressure. I mean, we were only supposed to have fifty minutes to begin with anyway. But we had to fix the chairs first, of course. Then, Dr. Tejido passed the exam booklets one by one. Then, he gave us the questionnaires one by one as well. Only then did we start. By that time, we only had about 35-40 minutes on the clock. The whole thing's a essay exam. Three essays in total.

I got thesis 3. I remembered thesis 3 and had no problem writing it down. Explaining what "Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist" meant in the thesis statement was more than a bit trickier. I hadn't really had much time to really go over every one of the review notes since I'd spent most of my time memorizing quotes. So, that was, to say the least, not a breeze. Next came the second part. What are the three elements of Dorr's Balanced Spirituality? Why is it dangerous to focus on just one? I forgot the third one. "Walk humbly with God" (religious conversion), "Love Tenderly" (moral conversion) and political conversion. I forgot the quote for political conversion. And I forgot how to explain them. Third was the linking of the quotes. I got Dorr's A Balanced Spirituality. I remembered the quotes. Writing a coherent essay in less than 10 minutes was a different matter. I was so desperate to get all of the quotes under that article into my essay (sayang naman! hirap magmemorize!) that I wasn't able to write a more coherent essay. I was still writing furiously even as Dr. Tejido was telling us that it was time.

So, I don't know how it ended up. I just hope he doesn't give us back the exams on my birthday. That would be really sad.

Subic Trip

It pushed through! Yumi, Cerz, Ina and I went to Subic, along with my brother and my cousin, Marvin. We left last Friday, a couple of hours after I got out of the Theo exam. We arrived in Subic around 7 pm.

What did we do there? Pingpong, swim and go kayakking, pingpong, eat, pingpong, sleep, pingpong, watch DVD, pingpong, and Monopoly. By the way, did I say pingpong?

We did justice to the new table tennis set that mom had placed in the house there. We played pingpong (more like chased after the runaway pingpong ball) until we were ready to drop. Nope, even beyond that. Yesterday, Ina and I challenged each other, and we stuck to it: nonstop playing for about an hour and fifteen minutes. By the end, I was ready to just fall back on the ground and die. We kept coming back for more, though. There's something about it that's so addictive, even though it tires you out. Same with kayakking. We rented a kayak at the beach for an hour and took turns (by pairs) rowing all over the cordoned area. It was great! I realized how much fun it was even though it was tiring.

So, this morning, my left arm was sore from rowing, and now, my thighs are somewhat stiff from running all over our deck, chasing after the pingpong ball.

I want to go kayakking and play pingpong again!

We went to Bulacan today, straight from Subic. My friends met the Santiago clan...and man, is it big! Imagine all of those Santiagos, plus a group of the Cordero side, and a lot of other extras, running around our place in Bulacan. Scary thought. But that's what you get when there's a new doctor in the family.

Speaking of which, something funny: When we drove up to the gates of the chapel in Parong-Parong, there was this huge, white banner tacked to the chicken-wire fence. Here was what it said:

Congratulations!

EDEL SANTIAGO CORDERO!
(son of Edgar and Elvie)

for passing the the medical board exam

Or something like that. Anyway, what is important to note is the second and third line. First of all, it's Edhel, not Edel. But that's no big deal, everyone makes that mistake all the time. But then, the whole name itself. Oh, man, everyone was asking if Edhel was married. They got the two family names reversed! It's Cordero Santiago, not Santiago Cordero! But the worst was the line after that. Son of Edgar and Elvie?!? I have another brother?!?! Edhel's a girl!

Wala, maling mali talaga! I'll be calling my sister Kuya Edhel from now on. >:D
